When Prince Charles married Camilla in 2005, he wanted to ensure that the day was drastically different from his first marriage.
Prince Charles took the dramatic step of banning two key things from his wedding, which was held at Windsor Guildhall on April 9.
The couple’s civil service was followed by a religious blessing at Windsor Castle. It was attended by the Queen and Prince Philip, who had skipped the earlier ceremony. The Queen missed it because her position as head of the Church of England attending the marriage of two divorcees would have been an awkward situation.
At that time, Buckingham Palace said: “Her Majesty will not be attending the civil ceremony. That is because she is aware that the Prince of Wales and Mrs Parker Bowles wanted to keep the occasion low-key. The Queen and the rest of the royal family will, of course, be going to the service of dedication at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle”.

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ reception was hosted by Queen Elizabeth. When Charles and Camilla sent out their invitations to the 800 guests attending the reception, they made clear that two things would be prohibited from the big day.

So, what were those two things? The couple had a strict no phone and camera policy. Not only this, but they also banned guests from bringing presents. As the invitation clearly stated: “Wedding List: There will be no Wedding List”.
Well, that’s because Charles reportedly wanted to avoid any embarrassment, as he had following his marriage to Diana, in 1981. The couple had received more than 6000 gifts from the British public, royal families and dignitaries around the world. However, they ended up having to destroy many.
A report on the official gifts in the Prince’s household was released in 2003. It stated: “Wedding and other gifts have been destroyed in order to release some space”. Some of the lavish gifts given to Princess Diana included a suite of sapphire jewellery from the Saudi royal family.

It is reported that one of her favourite wedding gifts was a pair of diamond-and-pearl earrings. It was sent by the Emir of Qatar. It’s quite common for members of the royal family to receive jewellery as wedding gifts. Camilla has even been seen wearing many items the Queen Mother and the Queen gave Diana when she married Charles.
