And for that matter, Queen Elizabeth is no exception at all. Her Majesty is a woman and she values her routine. For example, she only carries cash a single day of the week and eats the same simple thing for breakfast every day.
When the Queen gets in a festive mood, she is certainly willing to make one small departure from tradition.
Christmas day is a pretty busy time at Sandringham House. It’s Queen Elizabeth’s estate where the royal family and their staff spend Christmas. But all the rules and regulations are briefly set aside during Christmas lunch. It’s when Queen Elizabeth pauses her ongoing festivities to give one of her staff members a touching ‘Yuletide gift’.

After the Christmas meal has been served, the most senior royal chef spends a moment with Her Majesty in the dining room. According to the reports, it’s a place that is exclusively reserved for the royal family. Well, that’s not the only time the Royals have broken their own royal protocol, either.

Former royal chef, McGrady says:
“Right before the grand Christmas buffet, the senior chef on duty goes into the dining room. He then carves the rib roast or turkey. Once the chef is done with all of that, the Queen presents the chef with a glass of whiskey and they toast”.

“That is the only and only time when the senior royal chef goes into the dining room and has a glass of whiskey with all of the royal members. Well, when I was on duty, it was one of my favourite traditions”.
