Despite the public scrutiny, Queen Elizabeth made her grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry her number one priority.
Even after 25 years, some critics still continued to condemn the way Queen Elizabeth handled the situation after Princess Diana’s death.
A few of them, even allege she made a snide remark upon hearing the news. The tragedy that took place on August 31, 1997, caught everyone by surprise, no one can fault the royal’s first orders after the accident.
The Queen was not only the reigning monarch but also a grandmother of two. Her immediate and most important responsibility was to protect her grandsons, and she took drastic action to do so. When they lost their mother, Prince William and Harry were just 15 and 12 years old, respectively.

In spite of all this, the family attended a church that morning: After all this, the Queen banned any mention of Diana from the service. This was first reported in a new Channel 5 documentary via the Sun. Diana: 7 Days that Shook the Windsors also reports that the Queen worried about the Princess hearing the disturbing details on the news.
She also demanded her staff should hide all the TVs and radios as an extra precaution, letting the young kids grieve in peace. Many people think the Queen waited too long to make a public statement,
But for Queen Elizabeth, her grandsons became her first priority during the crisis. The royal family decided to hold a public funeral for Princess Diana after nearly a week. Initially reluctant, William and Harry joined the procession behind their mother’s coffin along with Prince Philip, Earl Spencer, and Prince Charles.

Last year, William revealed how much his grandmother helped him during and after that difficult time. “Having lost my mother at a young age, it’s been particularly important to me that I’ve had somebody like the Queen to look up to and who’s been there and who has understood some of the more complex issues when you lose a loved one”.
