Queen Elizabeth’s reaction to the news that Diana had been involved in a car crash is the subject of a fresh claim.

Speaking about his mother not being around today to see his wife, Duchess of Cambridge, and children, the royal continued: “I would love to have had her advice. I would love her to have met Catherine and to have seen her grandchildren grow up. It makes me really sad that she won’t, that they will never know her.”

He also said: “I want to bring up my children in a very happy, stable, secure world and that is so important to both of us as parents.

“I want my son, George, to grow up in a real living environment. I don’t want him growing up just behind these palace walls. He has to go out there. The media will definitely try to make it harder but we will fight for them to have a normal life.”
