While both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex will always wear tights and hats in public, there are two official royal fashion rules. Some of their fashion decisions are just to respect Queen Elizabeth’s preferences. Especially when it all comes to footwear.
So, does the Queen wants her royal brides not to wear wedges?
Indeed, yes. Strapped sandals and trainers may get the royal thumbs up, but one shoe style that won’t go down is the royal wedge. Though, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate is known to love wedges. She is often photographed teaming them with summer dresses.

But, on closer inspection, it looks like there’s a time and a place. And so, she will never wear wedges in front of Queen Elizabeth, replacing them instead with court heels at events where her Majesty is present.
The reason is simple. The 92 year-old reigning monarch doesn’t like them. A source told The Royal UK: “The Queen isn’t a fan of wedged shoes. She really doesn’t like them. And, it’s not from now, but it has been like this since a long time. And, it’s well known among the women in the family”.
