Queen aide planned to end Charles’ affair with Camilla after Diana’s fury?

Prince Charles was told by Queen Elizabeth to end his affair with Camilla after Diana burst out with fury over a lavish party for Camilla Parker Bowles.


Princess Diana was very much furious when she got to know about Charles’ affair at Camilla’s birthday party.



Robert Fellowes, Queen Elizabeth’s private secretary, was on the verge of making an unusual request of the Queen in July 1997 after hearing that Charles was planning a glitzy 50th birthday bash for Camilla. But then, he was convinced to step back by fellow courtiers and the party went ahead as planned. This put Camilla Bowles to become a visible and acknowledged part of Charles’ life.

The Duchess: The Untold Story by Penny Junor, makes some sensational claims about Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship. Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage was completely over. But, Camilla was more than happy to stay out of the limelight. The biography claims that Diana was very much furious about the birthday party.

Ms Junor writes: “She was actually forging a new life for herself. Not only with her landmines crusade but also with a new romance. It was with the heart surgeon, Hasnat Khan. What had agitated her about the birthday party was simply the prospect of Camilla Bowles becoming a public figure”.

Prince of Wales, Charles and Camilla were eventually married in 2005.

Sir Robert Fellowes said that he would have to advise Queen Elizabeth to tell his son, Charles that he must give up Camilla Parker Bowles for good.



Ms Junor added: “Prince Charles decided to host a lavish 50th birthday party for Camilla at High-grove. When Sir Robert Fellowes, heard about the plans for the party, he was indeed furious”.

“In the event, Queen Elizabeth was never asked to even take it into consideration of giving this unprecedented regal order. Fellowes’s colleagues, Robin and Mary, are Queen Elizabeth’s deputy and assistant private secretaries”.

“They were so dismayed by his attitude that they all together ganged up on him. If he gave that advice to Her Majesty, then they would simply have to offer him some other advice”. The book also says that Camilla Parker Bowles had been happy to remain in the background. She was okay seeing Prince Charles for occasional nights and weekends only.
