Prince Philip Queen Elizabeth

Do you know? Why Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip slept on separate beds?

Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth was married to the Duke of Edinburgh, Philip for nearly 73 years. But, why did they sleep in separate beds?

It seems they had a special trick to keeping their marriage alive.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip both sleep alone. Sleeping in separate bedrooms is quite a normal thing for the upper class to do, according to the Queen’s cousin, Lady Pamela Hicks. Lady Hicks said: “In England, the upper class always have had separate bedrooms. You don’t want to be bothered with snoring or someone flinging a leg around you”.

“And, then when you are feeling cosy you share your room sometimes. Well, if you ask me, it is lovely to be able to choose”.

It was when Elizabeth was just 13-years-old and Prince Philip was 18 years old. She fell in love with Philip and soon, they started to send letters to each other.

They both were in love with each other: The pair got engaged in 1946 after Philip asked King George VI for his daughter’s hand in marriage. However, a formal engagement announcement was delayed until Elizabeth’s 21st birthday.

On the eve of their wedding, Philip was given the title Duke of Edinburgh. The morning was eventful for Elizabeth too. As her tiara snapped while she was dressing at Buckingham Palace before leaving for Westminster Abbey.
