Unseen pictures and a video of Meghan Markle dressed in a saree and talking about women’s hygiene have been doing the rounds recently.

Take a closer look below why Meghan Markle’s previous trip is in the news recently.

Even before she married Prince Harry and became the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was everyone’s radar. If the former American actress wasn’t being watched for her red carpet appearances, she was trending for her reputation on television series Suits, of course. In the middle of it all, Markle also caught India’s interest when she made a hush-hush trip to the country back in 2017 as part of her charity work with the organisation World Vision Canada.

It’s a very well known fact that the 39-year-old is a vocal feminist. During her trip to India, Meghan Markle used her time and experience to highlight concerns surrounding gender equality. She also talked about women’s hygiene, health and sanitation. Meghan even discussed girls’ limited access to education in India during her five days in the country.

The most exciting pictures to come from her trip was one that showed her hands painted with traditional Mehandi/Henna designs. And now it turns out, Meghan Markle tried more than just henna during her travels.

Recent pictures from the Duchess’ 2017 India visit reveal her spending some quality time with local women. Most of the women are dressed in a traditional Indian saree. Completing the attire with a matching bindi and bangles.

Meghan sits draped in an ombre green and blue version of the Indian staple, which she paired with a beige sari blouse with elbow-length sleeves. A freshly published video also shows Meghan enjoying a traditional dance performance. Reports state that she spent her time in Delhi and Mumbai meeting with children from several schools and NGOs.

During one of her school visits, she is seen speaking directly into the camera. Meghan addressed the concern about girls being forced to drop out of school because of a lack of bathrooms in rural areas. “What we found is that the enrolment at this school went up three times once the washrooms were built so that girls had access to clean hygiene and bathroom facilities while they’re at school,” the Duchess observed.

The tour also had Markle meet with Shamina Shafiq, a former member of the National Commission for Women, and be introduced to the Myna Mahila Foundation, which works with women who reside in Mumbai’s urban slums.
