19 May 2018 was a special day not only for Harry, Meghan and the entire family but also for all the royal fans.
All the royal fans on the streets of London and around the world were eagerly counting down to the biggest royal event of the year: Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry.
Absolutely no one could escape the hype. From thinking what Meghan’s dress would look like, to speculating about the lavish ceremony at Windsor Castle. Some details were already leaked, but even on the eve of the wedding we hardly knew what to expect from the biggest day in 2018‘s royal calendar. As the royal pair get ready to celebrate their second marriage anniversary, let’s take a look back at all the hype and hysteria that circled around their big day?
What would Meghan Markle wear?
The design of Meghan’s marriage gown was a strictly guarded secret. But it didn’t prevent everyone from making predictions about what her wedding gown would look like. In an interview, Meghan described her ideal gown. “Pared down and relaxed. Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist”, she said.

Leaked sketches had people suspecting Meghan would opt for long sleeves. Vanity Fair stated that Meghan had two dresses planned. One for her ceremony and one for the reception, a rumour that was later proven to be true.
What roles would the youngest royals play?
Fans were interested in knowing what roles the youngest members of the family would play? It was widely was speculated Meghan would choose Charlotte as one of her bridesmaids and the rumours were confirmed a day before.

Kensington Palace announced the full line-up of page boys and bridesmaids. Prince George was preferred to be a page boy for Harry. Meanwhile, young Prince Louis, who wasn’t even a month old at the time, was left at home.
What about Meghan Markle’s father Thomas Markle?
Thomas Markle and daughter Meghan’s relationship further deteriorated in 2018. Just weeks before the marriage, Thomas was dealing with health issues, and it was announced that he wouldn’t be attending the royal wedding. Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland was the fan favourite for walking her down the aisle. It was later announced that Prince Charles would be taking over the honour in a sweet gesture.

There was some disappointing and racist commentary during the wedding. Most of the discussion centred around how Meghan’s heritage and American background could put an interesting new twist on the nuptials. The news left royal fans thrilled at the idea of witnessing a royal wedding unlike any before.
Pubs were playing live coverage of the wedding on their TVs. The cheers when Meghan stepped out of the car and onto the steps of St George’s Chapel were out of this world and echoed in homes, offices and bars around the world.
