A furious Prince William had to step in and protect Kate Middleton after she was “harassed” on the day of her birthday.
In 2007, rumours began spreading that Prince William might finally propose to his university sweetheart, Kate Middleton, on her 25th birthday on January 9.
And so, the Duke of Cambridge, William is quite protective of his wife, Kate Middleton. Ever since his mother, Princess Diana, was killed during a car chase with paparazzi in Paris, William has been incredibly wary of the media. Well, that is kind of obvious, at least for him.
Hence, his protectiveness is quite genuine: Prince William wants to shield the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate from the constant barrage of the press. Times have changed too. And the British media largely leave the royal bride and mother of three royal kids, Kate, alone when she is off-duty. But when the mother of three, Kate was dating the Duke of Cambridge, William during their university days, some in the media had an insatiable appetite for wanting pictures of the woman rumoured to become the next royal and someday the future Queen Consort.

According to the documentary, ‘Chasing the Royals: The Media and The Monarchy’, released in 2011, Prince William was left incredibly angry when paparazzi began hounding Kate outside her London flat.

There were some rumours going on around that time: The media had got wind of rumours about Prince William planning to propose to his girlfriend on her 25th birthday. As the documentary shows, more than 30 paparazzi gathered outside Kate Middleton’s Chelsea flat. They were desperate to capture pictures or statements from her.
Seeing this, William was understandably angry. The documentary details how the situation led William to release a statement, pleading for privacy. At the time, a spokesman for the royal said:- “Prince William is very unhappy at the paparazzi harassment of his girlfriend. He wants, more than anything, for it to just stop. Miss Middleton should, like any other private individual, be able to go about her everyday business without this kind of intrusion. The situation is proving unbearable for all those concerned”.

Did his statement make any changes? Well, no. The media frequently stalked Kate’s London home. They were eager for a photo of her on her way to work. At the time, she was employed at a women’s clothing store where she worked as an accessories buyer. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate married at Westminster Abbey in 2011. Now, after eight years of marriage, they have three kids, George, Charlotte and Louis.
