A serious discussion is taking place about what might happen after Queen Elizabeth dies, with Prince Charles and William locked in a battle for the throne.
But the fact of the matter is that who will be our next King in real life?
Prince Charles has been first in line to the throne for more than 70 years now. This is more than any other heir in United Kingdom’s history. According to reports, few have suggested that there are chances that Charles could pass the throne straight to William or abdicate after a short reign.
The reports said that he could do it “as a means of expressing regret that he had to wait so long”. Some others have proposed that Prince Charles might make way for his son because of his own low approval ratings and to help preserve British Monarchy’s future.

Prince Charles has come under criticism for his divorce from Princess Diana, and his affair with Camilla. The Royal sources have claimed that Prince Charles plans to make “heartfelt interventions” upon becoming King. This would be done in contrast with Queen Elizabeth’s policy of staying out of public affairs.

A campaign group called ‘Republic’ have warned that “Prince Charles will bring down the British Monarchy if he speaks out” and has also backed calls for an elected head of state to replace the Royals. However, many people do believe that support for the Royals is largely tied up with Queen Elizabeth’s personal popularity and could indeed be damaged if Charles’s reign is not well-received.
ACCORDING TO THE POLLS: In August 1998, a year after Princess Diana’s death, Prince Charles’ approval rating was just 39%. It has since recovered and now stands at 60% according to the 2016 poll. The same survey found that William enjoys a much healthier approval rating of 79%. His rating is just two per cent behind Queen Elizabeth who garners 81% support.
The Royal UK took a survey. We found that up to 32% of Britishers think the Queen should abdicate at some stage to make way for Prince Charles. 70% of people are in favour of her reigning for the rest of her life.

The Royal author, Sarah Bradford believes: Queen Elizabeth has no intention of stepping down. Sarah said: “Queen Elizabeth simply feels that she must do her duty and she’s never even contemplated abdication”. Prince Charles is said to have accepted that he is “too old to make much of a difference anyway”.
When his mother does pass, there is no such sign that he plans to step aside. Aside from his personal feelings, if Prince Charles was to make way for Prince William, as the next king, he could spark a constitutional crisis.
