What it’s actually like behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace?

Buckingham Palace

Most of us haven’t seen Buckingham Palace from the inside. But now, we have a chance to see what it’s really like from the inside.

A new video released by the royal family takes us inside Buckingham Palace.

A short drive from Kensington Palace, where William with his family all live, is the Queen’s not-so-humble abode: Buckingham Palace. What sits inside is typically private to everyone except the British royals and their royal staff.

But, a new video released by the royal family gives a glimpse into what goes on behind closed doors.

The video is mostly about new laser technology, Point Cloud: It shows how the family can see 3D models of what needs to be renovated. As walking, all those long hallways can take up a good amount of time.

Even though the video is about technology and renovations, you can see what the inside of Buckingham Palace looks like as you watch.

The video goes through some of the many paths: These paths are used by the palace butlers to deliver food to distant rooms. That includes the Chinese Drawing Room, where functions are often held. There are even underground elevators to use to get around.

Currently, the 775-room palace is undergoing £369 million worth of renovations. This will help make the building more accessible and will keep people from getting stuck in the old lifts.

On the royal family’s website, they wrote: “The Palace’s electrical cabling, plumbing and heating have not been updated since the 1950’s”.  “The building’s infrastructure is in urgent need of a complete overhaul. It will help prevent long-term damage to the Palace and its contents”.
