ROYAL DYNASTY: Who will lead the throne after the Queen ?

queen elizabeth

They’re the most famous family in Britain, with countless column, online articles and photos of them published every week. But how are they all related and who will take the throne after the Queen ?

Queen Elizabeth, the 91-year-old monarch, is Britain’s longest reigning monarch and has ruled over the United Kingdom for almost 65 years now.

As the child of a royal “spare,” Queen Elizabeth, was thought unlikely to reign until her uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated in favor of her father in 1936. Whereupon he became King George VI and thus she the heir to the throne. Elizabeth became Queen upon his death on February 6, 1952.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT WHEN QUEEN ELIZABETH ABDICATES AND WHO WILL REPLACE HER THRONE?

1. THE PRINCE OF WALES …

Prince Charles

Heir to the throne and the next king of Great Britain and the Commonwealth Realms. Prince Charles, already holds the record for the longest-serving heir, been in the position since 1952. He will also be the oldest person to be crowned in British history when he eventually succeeds Queen Elizabeth.

2. THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE …

As the eldest son of Prince Charles, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William will one day succeed his father, Prince Charles. At the age of 34, he may have 30 years to wait, if his father enjoys the longevity of other members of the Royal family.

3. PRINCE GEORGE …

The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Kate’s first-born son, will one day be King George VII. Which means that anyone alive today is unlikely to see another Queen on the throne in their lifetime once Queen Elizabeth’s  monarch is over.

4. PRINCESS CHARLOTTE …

Prince George’s sister is the “spare to the heir”. She will face the same problems as Prince Harry. As for trying to find the right role for themselves during a lifetime constrained by their royal title. She would only become queen if Prince George predeceased her without having any living children or heir to the throne. Princess Charlotte is the first royal princess to be born within the direct line of the new succession since the Princess Royal in 1950. She is likely to one day inherit the title, which is traditionally given to the oldest daughter of the monarch.

5. PRINCE HARRY …

The all-action Prince has spent most of his life being the third in line to the throne. Prince Harry has now found himself being bumped down to fifth. However, chances are he could fall still further down the line of succession if Prince William and Princess Kate have any more children.

  1. I Think the election or the selection will start from the eldest or the next in line. Thanks.
