Queen Elizabeth wears only one shade of Nail Color.

Grandparents sometimes get stuck in their ways. Prince Harry and Prince William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, is no different.

She has worn the same shade of nail polish since 1989. No other color has touched her fingernails in the past 28 years.

This must be some nail polish, you’re probably thinking. It must contain flecks of gold and be blessed by angels, to have such a hold over the Queen of England. Well no, actually.

The nail polish she uses is a light pink color by “ESSIE”. Essie’s iconic “Ballet Slipper” lacquer isn’t just a favorite among brides or the richer class. It’s also the only color Queen Elizabeth wears on her nails.

Queen Elizabeth’s favorite nail polish costs £7.99 from Essie

According to the brand’s website, Queen Elizabeth’s royal hairdresser penned a letter to nail polish founder “Essie Weingarten” in 1989, requesting a bottle of the classic shade to be sent to Buckingham Palace as she refused to wear any other.

The modest shade of the nail polish which Queen Elizabeth uses never clashes with her vibrant royal outfits. Ballet Slippers is an understated pale hue. It’s just subtle enough to hide beneath Her Majesty’s gloves when she’s greeting and hosting world leaders.

The universally flattering shade has developed somewhat of a cult-following in the beauty world. It seems as Queen Elizabeth isn’t the polish’s only influential fan. Supermodel and former Victoria’s Secret Angel, Karlie Kloss once named this Essie’s nail polish as her summer-must have.

An endorsement from an angel and a queen? Not bad, especially at £7.99 a bottle!
