Well, we all know how strongly the Queen Mother believed Charles. The Prince of Wales was very close to his grandmother and loved her the most.

And so, the Queen Mother always took the side of Prince Charles.

Apparently she approved of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ affair. However, there was this one condition which first needed to be fulfilled.

What was the condition that the Queen Mother put?

It has always been said that Camilla Parker Bowles was actually the third person in Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage. 

The Prince of Wales, Charles and Camilla’s affair began in the year 1986. It was ten years before he officially became divorced from Princess Diana.

According to some recent reports, Charles often turned to his grandmother, the Queen Mother, for advice during this phase in his life.

Prince Charles and Camilla’s scandalous affair.

Royal writer, Piers Brendon once explained during an interview: “The Queen Mother was relatively broad-minded. She didn’t mind Prince Charles having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. Provided that this did not become a scandal”.

“Queen Elizabeth I, the Queen Mother was worried that a scandal like this could be blown up into something that could wreck the monarchy. However, despite her misgivings, she stood by her grandson”.

According to a royal source:-

“The Queen Mother truly supported her grandson. She even allowed the couple, Charles and Camilla to use her Scottish home, Birkhall. It was meant to be used as a bolthole”.

This wasn’t the Queen Mother’s first experience of scandal within the family. She had seen a similar one when King Edward VIII proposed to marry Wallis Simpson. 

Wallis Simpson was an American socialite who was divorced from her first husband. It was a huge scandal at the time. So mush so, that Edward abdicated from the throne, and was excommunicated by his family.
