Throwback: How Duchess of Cambridge celebrated the news of being pregnant for the third time?

When the news flashed that Prince William and his wife, Kate, are expecting their third royal baby, it was clear that the baby will be fifth in line to the British throne.

Duchess Kate was quite overwhelmed after being pregnant and giving birth to her third royal baby.

Well, into the 21st-century British law favoured male primogeniture, or that a male child has a greater right to the throne than a female child. But the only reason Queen Elizabeth ascended to the British throne in the first place was that her father, King George, had two daughters.

This whole thing was steeped in irony. The country with the strongest female ruling monarchs: Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II, didn’t really want them in the first place.

Laws for the royal baby: In 2011, before The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton announced her first pregnancy, this outdated law caught up with them. Then the parliament announced a new law. It was that Kate Middleton’s royal baby regardless of its gender will be the next heir to the British throne.

As the Royal couple had a boy, the new law was indeed a nice gesture. But it didn’t really have any real-life ramifications until now. Under the old rules, if this new child was a boy, it would obviously be a leapfrog in front of Princess Charlotte. She wouldn’t have become fourth in line to the throne. The Royal would be bumped to fifth in line to the throne.

That significant drop would also mean that if Prince George was ever to abdicate the throne, Princess Charlotte will be skipped over just because of her gender. Luckily, the newest and the smallest royal baby among the royal family will come with no such family politics. Also, Princess Charlotte will stay where she rightfully is now.
