It was ‘the end’ of an adventurous era for Prince Philip. The royal, Prince Philip will retire from public duties in this coming fall.
He took part what is likely to be his last ceremony for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. That too in the city that provided the name for his title, “The Duke of Edinburgh”.
At the awards ceremony Prince Philip was looking relaxed and happy after his recent hospitalization. He was also indeed seen chatting with the young winners at a garden party held at the Palace of Holyrood house in the Scottish capital.
GIVING FINAL APPEARANCE.
These awards, which are given to those young and fresh talents who encourage adventuring, endeavor and community service among people. These awards have been a key part of his public life after he set them up in 1956. With his impending retirement from all the public duties, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, has said that he won’t be accepting any new invitations from his patronage. But there is a slight chance that he could take part in some of the ceremonies and official occasions, periodically.
ABOUT THE AWARDS.
The Duke of Edinburgh Awards has seen an estimated number of six million young people taking part in its Gold, Silver, and Bronze programs. Prince Philip’s daughter-in-law, Sophie Wessex marked the anniversary last September with a bike ride through out the United Kingdom.
MEETING THE AWARD WINNERS IN HIS FINAL APPEARANCE.
One of the award winners that Prince Philip met at Holyrood house was Rachel Brutin, 18. She then told the reporters that, “Prince Philip is an amazing man. It is quite poignant that this could be his last awards ceremony”. The Prince of one-liners also asked Rachel Brutin if she got blisters on her feet while doing the expedition portion of the award.
Prince Philip has been charming the locals alongside The Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth. At this point of time both, Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth are in Edinburgh for their week-long annual visit to the Scottish palace.
