The Fab Four are regularly featured on Kensington Palace’s official Instagram and Twitter feeds. It simply comes with the territory of being a working royal. But when the Duchess of Sussex started dating the Duke of Sussex, the online scrutiny got really bad.

Well, it got so bad, that in an unusual move for Kensington Palace, Prince Harry released a statement about Meghan’s protection and safety. Royal fever only intensified when Meghan and Prince Harry got married in May of 2018. And now, that they are expecting their first child together, the attention they receive has only increased.
The British royal family published some guidelines for social media. According to E! News, the royal family has published guidelines for their social media accounts. They have entitled it as ‘Social Media Community Guidelines’. The document has specifics on comments and states that they will not hesitate to involve authorities if a comment warrants it.
Here’s what comments on any of their social media accounts can’t involve:-
“Comments must not:
- Contain spam, be defamatory of any person, deceive others, be obscene, offensive, threatening, abusive, hateful, inflammatory or promote sexually explicit material or violence.
- Promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
- Breach any of the terms of any of the social media platforms themselves.
- Be off-topic, irrelevant or unintelligible.
- Contain any advertising or be promoting any services.
Scrolling through royal family’s official Twitter and Instagram accounts, one can see a flood of comments. However, not just the normal comments, but comments remarking on the physical appearance of the royal family.
Mostly, those comments are positive with lots of heart and shooting star emojis. However, some are quite negative. And like any other celebrity in the spotlight, the constant criticism can be hard and tiring.
How the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan feels about being off social media?
Well, before she got heavily involved with the royal family, Meghan had an Instagram account. She used to post about her life and about her blog: ‘The Tig’. Since she deleted her account, she’s commented on being out of the Instagram game.
During her tour of Australia with Prince Harry in October 2018, the soon-to-be mother told a woman it felt “freeing” to not be on social media. he also told her that “flattery and criticism run through the same filter”.
Does Meghan Markle have a secret Instagram?
Well, Meghan reportedly set up a secret Instagram account under a fake name to keep up with her friends. But, a source told The Sun, that she shut it down in December 2018. The source said:-
“It really got to her. And so, in the end, she had to shut down that account just before Christmas. It was something she did to protect her mental health. She felt very isolated and alone”.
