Everything you need to know about Kate’s first-ever solo outing with Queen Elizabeth

This event marks the first time Kate Middleton have had a public joint appearance with Her Majesty without any other royal family member in attendance. 

Kate Middleton joined Queen Elizabeth for a special joint outing today. It was their first since she joined the royal family in 2011.

The future Queen Consort got further insight into the life of the Sovereign today. It was when she and the Queen toured a high-tech university in central London. Kate and Queen Elizabeth visited King’s College’s Strand campus. It is housed in the former BBC building, Bush House.

Both the royals looked stunning.

Queen Elizabeth arrived in a Stewart Parvin pink cashmere coat over silk printed dress and a matching hat. While Kate Middleton opted for a grey Catherine Walker coat dress and one of her go-to black fascinators by Sylvia Fletcher.

Almost a year after her wedding to Prince William, Kate made a royal visit to Leicester as part of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee tour in March 2012. Prince Philip was also on the outing. But, it was viewed as a momentous occasion for the Duchess to step out with the Queen without William by her side.

Lord Waheed Alli, chancellor of De Montfort University, told The Royal UK at the time:-

“They were chatting away. Kate would ask me things and then tell Queen Elizabeth”.

The Queen and the Duchess of Cambridge also viewed Kate’s wedding dress at Buckingham Palace together, in 2011. But, today, marks their first public joint engagement without any other member of the royal family.

Mother-to-be, Meghan had her first joint outing with Queen Elizabeth a few weeks after her wedding to Prince Harry. They travelled by train to Widnes, Cheshire. Meghan and Her Majesty were also happily chatting away as they took in a children’s dance performance during the outing.

Their outing was watched by millions today.

Duchess Kate, and the Queen arrived together in the courtyard that links the five Bush House buildings. They toured the education and learning facilities. Then they were seen heading towards the eighth floor. There, they saw one of the roof terraces that enjoys panoramic views across the city.

Kate Middleton will also be stepping out solo to visit London’s Foundling Museum. Over the weekend, William and Kate helped mark St. Patrick’s Day at a ceremony alongside the Irish Guards. While Her Majesty joined her granddaughter, Zara Tindall for the christening of Zara’s second daughter, Lena.
