It was not just a wedding, but a royal wedding. And, it was obvious to receive not just some wedding gifts, but many. The same happened with Harry and Meghan.
And look, what the couple did with all those gifts.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are returning £7 million worth of wedding gifts after receiving the unsolicited presents from well-wishers and companies looking for publicity.
Possible reasons for people to give away these presents?
That’s because the influence Meghan Markle has in the fashion industry is well-known. And that too, even before she became a royal. So, clothing brands are vying for a chance to dress the newlywed.
However, despite being fully showered with gifts, they cannot actually accept any of them. The is their public wedding registry asked for donations to charities in lieu of presents.
According to the royal protocol.
No matter how tempting the free gifts may be, the royal protocol prohibit the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from accepting any gifts for commercial purposes. Especially referring to those from brands eager to dress or accessorize them as well as any gifts from well-wishers they don’t personally know.
Prior to the royal wedding, the couple issued guidelines about the big day. The statement read as:-
“It should be duly noted that gifts cannot be brought to St George’s Chapel or the Reception that follows at Windsor Castle. All the guests are advised to seek further guidance on delivery arrangements for any gifts to Kensington Palace”.
“When gifts are accepted, the consent of the member of the royal family should be contingent upon the enterprise undertaking not to exploit the gift for commercial purposes”.

“The gifts offered by private individuals living in Britain not personally known to the member of the royal family should be refused where there are concerns about the propriety or motives of the donor or the gift itself”.
Apart from the £7 million worth of gifts they cannot keep.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did receive some notable gifts they won’t have to return. One is them is a pair of koalas named Meghan and Harry from the Australian region of New South Wales. It is reported that, they will be kept at the Taronga Zoo.
