According to Diana, her eating disorder started after she and Prince Charles got engaged and he made a remark about her figure. She recalled him touching her waist and saying, “Oh, a bit chubby here, aren’t we?” The princess added that the comment “triggered off something in me.”
What Diana did to try and get Charles to listen to her
It wasn’t only eating disorder, Diana likewise battled with depression and attempted to hurt herself on a few occasions. Once she confessed to cutting herself with Charles’ penknife.
“He wouldn’t hear me out. So I got his penknife off his dressing table and scratched myself vigorously down my chest and the two thighs,” the princess said. “There was a great deal of blood — and he hadn’t made any reaction at all.”
In another desperate endeavour to get noticed, Diana confessed that she threw herself down a flight of stairs while she was four months pregnant with Prince William.
“I had told Charles I felt so desperate and I was crying my eyes out. He said I was crying wolf and I was deceiving everyone. ‘I’m not going to listen,’ he said. ‘You’re always doing this to me. I’m going riding now.’ So I threw myself down the stairs,” she confessed. “The queen comes out, absolutely horrified, shaking — she was so frightened.”
The princess said that while she had some wounding around her stomach from the fall she realized “I wasn’t going to lose the child.”
