Why Princess Beatrice’s baby will have a title when Princess Eugenie’s child does not

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who were married on July 17, 2020, are expecting their first child.

This will be the second child for Edo who has one son with his ex Dara Huang.

After the news came out, it was informed that Beatrice and Edo’s baby will have a title which had some wondering why their child will when Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie’s son does not have one. Here’s the reason for that, plus why some consider the date the royals chose to announce that Princess Beatrice is expecting was no coincidence.

Many royal spectators believe the timing of the announcement on May 19 was no accident as it was announced on Prince Harry and Meghan‘s third wedding anniversary. This was seen as a planned move. As you may recall, the Sussexes informed the royal family that they were expecting their first child at Princess Eugenie’s wedding which reportedly upset the bride’s parents and Beatrice.

Why Princess Beatrice child will have a title but Eugenie’s son doesn’t? Beatrice and Edo’s son or daughter will have a title to go with their name. Some found this new interesting since Eugenie’s son, August, who was born Feb. 9, 2021, does not.

There was speculation that perhaps the queen changed a royal rule or she was granting a courtesy title but that’s not the case. The actual reason has to do with Beatrice’s husband, not his in-laws.

Prior to August’s birth, Hello! quoted royal editor Emily Nash saying: “Princess Eugenie’s baby will not have a title, or use the HRH style, because these are passed down the male line and Jack [her husband] does not have a title.” Edo, however, does have a title due to his lineage and is actually an Italian count.

In addition to being a British princess upon her marriage to Edo, Beatrice became a countess as well. Edo’s father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, confirmed that and their future children’s titles to the Daily Mail.

“Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation,” he explained. “He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”
